Mohammed is set to overtake Jack as the most popular boys' name in Britain as a result of the high birth rate in Muslim families, which is driving the British population to a record high.
A report from the Office of National Statistics says the highest birth rates are in the Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities, both predominantly Muslim.

As most students at Eastern Michigan University were heading home for the holidays in December, the school put out a news release announcing that student Laura Dickinson had passed away unexpectedly in her dorm room.
There was no foul play, the school said. Staff members assured students there was no reason to worry about safety. The campus fell into mourning, with candlelight vigils for Dickinson, 22, a member of the school’s crew team.
For 10 weeks, neither her family nor fellow students knew state and campus police were investigating several suspects. On Feb. 23, Orange Amir Taylor III, 20, a fellow Eastern Michigan student, was arrested. Only then did the university acknowledge the truth: Dickinson had been raped and killed. Her killer took her keys and locked the dorm-room door when he left.
Victim was white. Victimizer was black. Gee, I wonder why they covered it up...

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO – Authorities have linked a man arrested in connection with the rape of a woman along the I-5 through a DNA match this morning, authorities said.
About 36 hours after he was taken into custody, the Orange County Sheriff Department's crime lab matched a DNA sample taken from the crime scene and a sample taken from Alejandro Martinez Leyva, a 25-year-old resident of San Juan Capistrano, said Jim Amormino, spokesman for the Sheriff's Department. The rape occurred early Saturday when the woman was in a solo crash in the southbound lanes of I-5 in San Juan Capistrano, near the Junipero Serra Road exit, authorities said.
Her car was disabled on the shoulder when she called a friend for help at 2:30 a.m., just before an older sedan stopped in front of her car.
Authorities said Leyva offered to help, but when she refused, he threw the phone from her hand and forced her into the front seat of the car, where he raped her
Leyva was in custody with an immigration hold
The principal of an East Harlem high school last month stunned his staffers by suggesting they dumb down their classes.
"If you are not passing more than 65% of your students in a class, then you are not designing your expectations to meet their abilities," Principal Bennett Lieberman wrote in a Nov. 28 memo to teachers at Central Park East High School. "You are setting your students up for failure, which in turn, limits your success as a professional."
Now a New York University professor, Meier said she's worried the memo came as a response to the city's new A-to-F grading system, which factors how many credits students accumulate per year. If more kids pass their classes, the school, which got a B this year, will get a higher grade.

A Manhattan principal determined to rid her school of "negative energy" paid a priestess to drip chicken blood on the floors and stalk the halls with dozens of lighted candles during bizarre Santeria ceremonies, investigators and sources revealed yesterday.
Principal Maritza Tamayo invited a neighbor to perform the rituals twice in Unity Center for Urban Technologies in SoHo...
"She had the ceremony to drive away the bad spirits in the school,"
Education officials are pushing to fire Tamayo, a 17-year veteran of city schools who earned $133,998 last year.

Three ballads with images ranging from alligators sunning themselves in swamps to rockets roaring into space made the cut Tuesday for a showbiz-style online competition to replace Stephen Foster’s antebellum nostalgia for the “Old Folks At Home” as Florida’s state song.Hill thanked Gov. Charlie Crist, who supported the search for a new ong and declined to have the familiar “Swanee River” song sung at his inauguration.
“What we’re doing here is sunsetting our prior song,” Homan said. “It’s a memorable song but it’s a memory of the way Florida was, and the new song will be the way Florida is.”
